I'm sure the smoking doesn't contribute to the health of your hair!

I imagine if you go to My Computer, double click on the CD/DVD drive and delete anything that's in there, that message won't popup anymore.

I haven't had spag bol since then either, I don't think. It has been ages. I miss having a nice kitchen lots.

Love and miss you too! x

I'd give anything to see you walking down the stairs with a tray full of plates, Dan. I really miss you too and I'm so happy you're coming for Christmas Eve. I can't wait!

About the smoking thing....let's see what the New Yea brings, eh? I know it stinks and I'm sorry I made your hair fuzzy. (Do you think that's what's wrong with mine? LoL.)

Every time I turn on my laptop I get a message saying that I have a file waiting to be written to cd. I can't get rid of it. Why can't I? Why's it saying that all the time?

I haven't cooked spag bol since I last lived with you. x

I love you and I miss you and I'm SO proud of you. xxxx

I had a similar converation at BT.
"can I have your area code please?"
254365
"No, that's your phone number. I need the area code.":
Oh..I don't have one of those my love.
"Umm...I think you do. It's the number you would dial if you wanted to phone home but you were in the next city."
Oh...I don't go there. It's not very nice. So I don't need a different number...

and so on and so on till I was bangING MY HEAD AGAINST THE DESK.

I suppose; but then again they are calling a technical support line, where they should place their trust and confidence in the advisor they are speaking to.

People should appreciate that if they are speaking to someone in technical support, they might just know what they’re doing, and should listen to exactly what they’re saying, as to prevent anything from going wrong.

i don't think these people have trouble day-to-day with ordinary things. i believe it's all pretty psychological. if the are not technically savvy, then in their minds, anything that relates to technology even as easy as pushing two buttons at same time w two different fingers, sounds complicated. my husband is like this...frustrates the hell out of me, because then i have to talk to him in the most simplest form when telling him how to do something he doesn't know how to do on the computer, etc. he's fully capable and smart at a LOT of things(including some computer stuff)...just not ALL techno crap lol

Ok...not typos, but...

I think you need an 'a' in front of tech support call centre.

And this sentence:

Just vague outlines that give you with enough information...

you need to lose the word 'with'

Hi

A few of my friends in London are in one of thse things where they own part of their house and a housing association owns the rest, so each month they pay some mortgage and some rent. If they are feeling rich they can pay off more of the housing association and own a bit more house, which is a pretty good idea.

I think there might be a thing where they the association gets a share of the gaisn when they sell the house too, but I am not sure.

It's also a predisposition towards fatness, rather than "becoming fat" in itself, I guess the DNA determines how much of the fat than you digest is layered into fat reserves, and how much is burnt immediately. Besides, going by the stereotype of Ethiopians, they're not fat because they have never have an opportunity to become fat, and so the DNA never plays its role.
Science, it works bitches.

Okay, instead of the team of people paying, it's the company that pays for it. So those 4 people are paying back the company, and the 5th person who is getting the house is borrowing from the company. Those 4 people already have houses through borrowing money from the company, so they're paying the company back, which keeps the cashflow going.

I suppose that isn't a huge difference from going to a bank though...

I thought it was a great idea when you explained it to me, but you've written it a little differently here. The way it sounds now is that these 4 people won't be repayed until the mortgage is clear...which would be 25 years minimum. I don't think they would wait that long!

I do like the idea though of a few friends going in together to buy a place. A few years down the line, one of them could move out and 'sell' their share of the house to someone else just starting out. By then that person would hopefully have enough equity for a good deposit on his own place. And so the chain continues....

I agree totally. The old classic rock bands (the ones that you see once in a lifetime) eg Kiss, Priest and Motorhead were fantastic. Kiss above all was worth the weekend money alone but being a member of the Kiss Army I would say that!!!

I'm not into Jimmy Eat World, HIM or the other crap that appeared although I did catch The Subways, Children Of Bodom, Ace Frehley (Ex-Kiss guitarist), Offspring, Elliott Minor, Disturbed, Pendulum, Biffy Clyro, Apocalyptica and Saxon who were pretty cool.

Again, I took fair less money than needed for the arena prices and agree that the distance between the arena and the campsite was a stupid distance but then that distance give us drinking time before the arena entrance (we managed to carry 5 crates of beer and cider between the campsite and the car alog with the tent, sleeping bags and grub!) Wheelbarrows are a blessing at a Festival, trust me!!!

An interesting experience and I am thankful to have seen Kiss that weekend although I think that Priest should have been the closing band on the Monday as that would have topped off an excellent weekend.

To all the classic rockers out there.......
Rock and Roll All Night and Party Every Day!!!!

What a bummer.
It's always a nightmare just starting out in the world of credit. If it's any consolation, once you have the phone and have made a few payments it'll be a lot easier to get something else.
(Not that I'm encouraging you to get anything else, of course!)

well, i had to 'convert' to see how much that cost. lol that's about half our mortgage! that space is like a new york apt. tiny spaces there cost as much as our mortgage...and that's not in the 'good' area.

Hey John.

Life is pretty slow right now to be honest. Unfortunately I didn't get the position with Toucan, and I've not heard anything back from Organic Development, so I don't think I got that either. Not that I'm hugely bothered, because they seemed like a bunch of complete idiots, and indeed the idea of using Joomla for ever was a bit daunting. It's not even a nice CMS.

I'm still on the job hunt, which isn't too much fun. I've been sticking at the web development though. Making a fair few websites in WordPress for people, and I have been working on my own CMS focused at band websites, as there isn't really anything that meets that specification around on the Internet.

I suppose things didn't work out at the new(ish) place then? Where are you headed next?

Hi Dan
Hows life? How funny, I had an interview with Organic Development just over a month ago - well I say an interview actually it was a full on here is something wrong with our Joomla setup, we are not quite sure waht it i, can you fix it? (Yes I did)
In the end though it boiled down to money and they worked on a basic + commission basis and they didn't contribute towards pensions, and at the end I thought it a bad idea to go for a job based on commission as the economy is entering a slowdown... (and I'm not sure I could bear the idea of only doing Joomla) it's a bit annnoying though as it was my ideal place to work. Period. Well except down on the quay.
There was also some talk of a position with Toucan (with a recruitment consultant) - who I would also have loved to work for, but there was nothing at my level, alas.
But anyway I got a call out of the blue from somebody else and I start my new job on Thursday. Pretty exciting.
I'd better do some more reading and see where you have ended up. I'm glad you are doing some web development again, stick with it.

You made me cry.
I'm sorry Dan, for all of it. I really, really am.

Barney was laying on the patio today. Then he went upstairs with Bo and curled up on the bed. He seemed relaxed. Happy, even. I know you'll miss him, but for a dog-eared ol' cat...it was for the best. x

I know what you mean..! Camp was awsome, I've never experienced that sort of freedom and peace. And it's exciting thinking that it was like a prequel to a bigger, better camp in August.
I've still got your sleeping bag! And I have a new phone number, I may as well tell you here, which is: 07814726739.

PC - PC is damn slow these days, and now it's too fucking complicated. I can't say I've ever done Mac - Mac networking, but I don't imagine it's difficult. I've seen plenty of problems with doing constant network work with Apple, and networking Apple - PC, and vice-versa.

I agree they have issues, but networking between PCs and Macs is a piece of cake and far more reliable than PC - PC. Mac - Mac is just so easy it's criminal.

Well it wasn't my laptop, so I couldn't just say "no, you have to get this one". Also, Apple don't make a £400 notebook, and as gorgeous as they are, they do have their own networking issues.

If you suffer claustrophobia then I'd expect you to be a little more understanding, instead of being "insulted" simply because you suffer it a lot worse than I do. Recreating the incident on my blog from memory is hardly going to be an exact replecation of how it actually was, and I'm not going to be able to describe exactly how I felt at the time, but considering you weren't there and you're not me, that's slightly inconsiderate of you.

I was at the back of the bus actually. I always go as far back as I can, and I was right at the back bar one seat, because the very back seat was full. If the bus is full when I get on it, and people are standing, I always walk past them and stand at the very back, in hope that they might just get it, but it never seems to happen.

I have no idea how other people may feel about having to live with me around, especially on the bus, but considering I'm polite, and stay out of everyone's way and am generally quiet and caring, I'd imagine I'm a lot nicer to have around than people who are complaining about the bus being cramped when they're contributing to the problem in the first place.

... also id like to state that you may have anger issues. i noticed in this article that you are very pessimistic and cant control your feelings for such small things like people not wanting to stand in the back of the bus. were you in the back? probably not. yet you are complaining about others not going back there. seems hypocritical. i think you need to worry about bigger things than this so called "attack". no ones perfect. and you need to remember that your not any better than the person next to you. no matter where you are... your not the only one trying to live life in this world. other people have to deal with you and the way you act too. how do you think they feel?

Ciara - I actually find it a lot slower to type or text in shorthand, or what ever you want to call it. I have to think a lot more about what I'm saying and what I am trying to say. It's quicker for me to just type it properly, with apostrophes and everything.

MU - Alongside you would be Nan, Granddad, Dad, Steve, etc. in a group called "Family". Instead of having a group for it I just have everyone in my family with "Family" in front of their contact name, so it reads "Family Mum", "Family Dad", etc.

Hmmm. Who would be alongside me in my group?
I have quite a few of your friend's numbers in my phone and I wanted them all together for easy access. The only thing I could think of doing was starting their name with a 'z'. So I have zsean, ztallis, zfatherchristmas etc. It's not a perfect solution but it helps.

my son will also text with full words...i don't, don't have the time. but yes, for basic texting and calling things would be easier to use with proper button placement...and an address book that's hard to use, i would never survive. i have a pda myself, but i do do more than text and call.

It's not simply coincidences. It's called synchronicity. I know just how frightening it is. In fact, it has made me question my own sense of reality even though I know I'm not delusional. Read my latest blog entry about brainlock. I have defined it in more detail there based on some things I have been studying.

Yeah, posters and maps are nice for a little while, but once more, not important enough to treasure. Yeah, all of my books are in great condition, so I don't imagine selling them will be a problem. I probably won't start that part of the procedure until I have an eBook reader though.

Fair enough. However I still love it when you get something tangible that you can hold in your hands connected with the reality of the game - maps from the Total War series spring first to mind, but also the Elder Scrolls. Tell me which books you might be selling some time and I'll take a look. I already have two bookcases in my room, but there's always room for more. If there are any you'd still like to get rid of think about the Book Cycle charity down by the quay?

I too appreciate the satisfaction out of looking at the box art, and flicking through the inlay; but really, how often do you look at the cover art of a CD after you've bought it and obsessed over it for a few days? Most MP3 playing software downloads all of the cover art for your albums now, so you still get to appreciate most of the artwork.

DVDs, well, they just take up a lot of space, cost a lot, and are annoying to sort through. In fact, the problem with most of this media is how much it costs, compared to how much of it there is and how much of it I want.

Books will be around for a very long time indeed, because for most people, there won't be any need to have a digital replacement.

Fink - I kept a few of the games that were really important, such as Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate, simply because they can't be repurchased online, and I had such fun playing them. I don't have my SNES, Megadrive or even my Dreamcast anymore, and I really regret that.

The eBook reader doesn't look as you'd expect. You'd expect a bright screen, like a small monitor, which would just be horrible to look at, but actually they've made the ambience of it quite pleasant.

(start voice of experience) Minimalism is very good, it's an ideal to work towards, the simplification of existence, but it is an extreme of being (in this modern world), sure, ditch the games you finished, but rather more often than I would like to admit, I get a hankering to just go back and re-experience - emulation fills some of that gap, but there is still a nasty hole in my being left from when I ditched my entire speccie collection *thousands of snapshot games* in favour of an Atari ST...Be very careful as you do this not to loose something you really care about (end voice of experience)...But a clear house is certainly a thing to covet... ;)

Don't agree on the DVD or book front. I get most of music digitally, but I still prefer a CD case and the design that comes with it. Books I can never read electronically - they've just got to be real. It's so much easier to read that way.
Books will be around for a very long time yet.

I completely understand what you are saying. I think books are fantastic. I love it in movies where you see people with libraries, and all of the books have the same covers so it just looks like a big leather-bound pattern, spreading from wall to wall.

However, books are awkward to hold, and actually quite uncomfortable to hold, when you are in bed. I'm not sure if anyone else finds that, but I certainly do. You have to roll around trying to get comfy, and make sure you have light on the book so that you can actually see the words, and then you have to make sure your arms are in a position that they won't ache. It's all very silly.

Not only that but they take up a fair amount of space in a bag, especially if you have more than one. They also weigh a fair bit, and are quite susceptible to becoming easily damaged.

Whilst an electronic book reader does take away a lot of the aesthetical value of owning a book, I think it brings in some advantages as well. Check the link to the eBook reader in my post - I think it's quite interesting.

I can see where you're coming from....especially with the music and films. Books, on the other hand, I think were made to curl up in bed with, or sit under a tree with, or take to a coffee shop, or to sign and give as presents. Reading books electronically is awful. I like the feel of the pages and the smell of them, and the way dust settles on them, and the way the spines get wrinkly and worn when they've been loved and read so much.

I like the audio quality of records; as actual things they're pretty darn annoying.

Surely advancing into the future is a good thing?

Well, I can understand the books thing, but it enhances real life conversation; it doesn't replace it.

It's WRONG. The human race will turn into robots and it'll be your fault. I thought you said you like records. You have ruined everything, if it wasn't for people like you we'd never advance into the future.

Fool.

That said, I don't like the idea of material goods, but I don't like technology either, where it takes over good old things like BOOKS and REAL LIFE CONVERSATION. But yeah x x

You did it again! Stop pressing shift+enter! There's no need for it!

Ah, I remember when I used to listen to Alkaline Trio, during my last two years of school or so. They have written a lot of meaningful songs, but I just can't get into them again.

How can you blame this on me? How!?

Shit! Shuffle!

I used to listen to Alkaline Trio on my way home form school last summer, obsessed with art and massive headphones, smoking Marboro reds, and a song by them came on earlier and reminded me of it all so well I nearly cried, and I was just thinking about the whole thing as I walked into my room just now, and the lyric about desstroying a cigarette when the guy suppost to quit and being really depressed and wished he had it that so nogalgic was sung EXACTLY as I entered the room.

But this is your fault.

Yeah, that's the one thing I am constantly striving; a different atmosphere. Thing is, when I try to work at a friend's house, or something, I get distracted by wanting to socialise and generally relax. Oh how I want to move out...

I'll put my music online at some point, probably when I have written and recordered more of it.

Thank you for your comments :)

As a static website, that would work smoothly, but for something that is updated constantly where you want your readers to read the latest entries and such, it wouldn't work so well.

I've already given my advice about your story, but part of me wants to write it here, soley so that other people can see it and I can, well, show off my critic skills or something like that, but thinking about it a bit more, it's ridiculous.

If you just keep trying, in as many different ways as you want, it will improve. Like I'm okay at photography and art, and gradually I'm getting recognition, or can see it on the horizon, my exibitions getting slightly better each time.

You can sit in a radically different atmosphere to put yourself in an unexpected frame of mind just for fun, like I do, and that will help you think about jobs and stuff I'm sure.

Please put your music on the internet, that would be cool x

I think, you should have a fairly transparent photograph for the background, of perhaps, an ephemeral arrangent of pocketary items or small trinkets that represent you.

And the boxes, less transparent parts of the image that correspond in a strange way to the post, in the exact shape around the object. For example, clicking on a box of matches could open a story about cooking.

Aww, I just want my own blog site and a knowledge of web design, I would put all mt stories and photographs on it, like my Myspace but much better and more me.

Anyway, toodles x

Wow, it happens to someone else?!

It is actually scary, the earliest and most pronounced in my mind is something I can't really remember but involved violins, and happened several times a day for several days.

I began to think it was because our lives are controlled by our subconcious, and dreams are like life but just not in a mind you can use normally, erm, yeah, or something ridiculously far fetched but which becomes like a horrific obsession if you have nothing better to do.

Thankyou for posting this- but to be honest, it's just started me concentrating on it again and scaring myself.

It's nearly half past seven in the morning and I haven't slept all night, I've just been to the petrol station to buy coffee and chocolate and Lucky Strike cigarettes, and now I'm having a nap x

I'd carry on with the story, creative writing encourages constant revision, it's a means to your own end...I have no time to do it full time, but I'm *slowly* doing the same sort of thing as an escape.

My friend Shelly has become so freaked out by these 'coincidences' that she is certain we are all linked in some way. You'd have to read her blog to see what she's saying because it would take far too long to explain.

I'm not sure what I believe.

Heheh, it's a method that is used quite frequently - I think what it does most of all is attracts interaction, because when your posts are on the main page, a reader has to click the post to submit a comment, but if they're already on the page with the comment form, there's more of a chance for them to leave a comment.

I usually go with a dark theme - in fact, I really like the colour scheme on your website, but for some reason this is what I ended up with, and I rather like it.

Yeah, I not really fond of the design nor color scheme but I loved the way you rearranged the news on the frontpage, that's definitely something I'm going to consider for my next site design. Done a little different of course so people don't see that I stole the design! :P

Heh, I'm quite good at adding up. Where do I sign up?

Where abouts are you moving to? Haven't really spoken to you for a while. I'm sure you'll walk into something no problem - you've got a whole ton of experience behind you, amongst the various skills and knowledge you posess.

Good luck with it all, mate.

Ah that sucks - really annoying when things like that happen. 2.5 is real nice.

I'm good at adding shit up. A mental Arithmeticist?! I do the Accounting because I'm good at it, although it is hella tedious at times. I no doubt need to move on to the next level and do something that challenges me more...

... moving away in the summer means finding a job. Urgently. I cannot have no job, it would mean me and Sophie would be out on our ear(s). But in my line of work, with my experience, I'm lucky enough to be able to walk into most jobs up there. Apparently. Time will tell if Comapnies share my Reed Accountancy recruiter's optimism!

Heheh, the WordPress 2.5 admin system is very nice, and I rather like it. It's taking a bit of time to get used to the change though.

One thing I don't like is there's no margin on the br tags. When somebody manually starts a new line I want it to be treated as a new paragraph, but for some reason TinyMCE doesn't seem to be doing that in the source code. Perhaps I need to update or change it or something.

Hehe, I'll get on it!

I'm tempted by Happy Cog's new Wordpress Admin system... but not enough to give up my Textpattern.
