It gives the chance to do something other than twiddle your thumbs every day. I've worked to some shit jobs in my time, but each one I've met some great people, learned a lot about myself, and at the end of the day it's all character building. Yep, it's very difficult to see it like that, but it's the challenges in life that make us into who we are. I’ve gotta agree here – no matter how shit the job is, a shit job is better than no job. Spending a few hours (it doesn't have to be full time) in a shitty job isn't actually that shitty. You'll meet new people, have a few laughs and have some money in your pocket. It'll get you out of the house, give you a purpose in the day, a reason to get out of bed and a sense of achievement, if not pride. You can still look for your dream job while you're there. Depression sucks, Dan. And doing a shitty job for a while isn't half as bed as waking up with a huge black cloud hanging over you.
