One of the things that really annoys me about Windows XP - and don’t even get me started on Vista - is the default system folders, and folders applications create which can’t be moved.
Take, for example, the My Documents folder. The path to this folder is usually something along the lines of:
C:\Documents and Settings\%user%\My Documents
This obviously makes perfect sense. However, the path to another system folder, say My Music, would be this:
C:\Documents and Settings\%user%\My Documents\My Music
Now, that’s not entirely logical, because a music file isn’t really a document. Why not put the folder in a more logical place, say, the level above. The same for My Pictures, My Videos, etc.
Now, that’s not the only problem, as you might have guessed. Several programs and games you install also insist on creating directories in My “Documents”. The screenshot below shows my My Documents folder.
As you can see, the folders I haven’t blurred out shouldn’t even be in the My Documents folder. Microsoft really could have been slightly more logical about this and made directories in the user root as opposed to in the folder that, going by the name, should be intended for documents.
Throw My Music, My Pictures and My Videos in the \%user%\ folder along with My Programs and My Games and organisation would be so much better.
They should employ me.
